Search and find everything with keywords

Keywords consist in remarkable words or expressions located in textual answers and are useful for rapid search & filtering of all the answers containing this word or expression.

Keywords and custom tags are two similar but distinct concepts.

Both are attached to a text answer and used for easy search and filtering. Both are displayed as clickable tags as well as filtering entries in the right sidebar.

Keywords are auto-generated by SimpleX A.I.  They cannot be edited, nor detached from the answer they are attached to. Yet, they can be made visible or not visible. They are displayed preceded by a hashtag.

Custom tags are user-generated. They can be created, edited, deleted. They can but are not necessarily related to the textual content of a given answer. 🏷 to be verified later could be a valid tag name, but not a keyword. Tags can also be made visible or not visible. They are displayed preceded by a tag icon.

Generating keywords

Keywords are extracted automatically during import.

Two types of keywords will be extracted:

  • Keywords and key expressions (such as 'filtered water' or 'lack of support' )
  • Names of persons, locations or organisations (such as Dasani or NATO)

Keywords are extracted in the context of the entire corpus, based on their frequency and meaning.

In the console, each text answer comes with, located below it, all the active keywords present in the answer. keywords are displayed starting with the # symbol. For example, "Every kid from rich to poor has access to education" is market with three distinct keywords: #education, #poor, #rich

keywords respect the underlying lemma structure of words ie if #break is a keywords, it will filter all the answers containing break, but also broken or breaks.

Keywords and n-grams

Sequence with multiple words (bigrams or three grams) can be extracted as keywords., for exemple #shared values.

Yet the sole word value might also appear frequently in different answers and be extracted as a tag on its own. In this case, clicking on #shared values will list all the answers containing #shared values. In this case, clicking on #values will list all the answers containing #values (eg values, but also value) to the exception of the answers containing #shared values. (or any other bigram tag including value).

In order to filter all the answers containing values and its variants, you can:

  • type value in the word search zone in top of the right sidebar
  • filter with all the tags containing value

Using keywords

Clicking on one given tag automatically filters all the answers to display only answers containing this specific keywords.

In every answer is highlighted in red the occurence of the keyword.

Answers keywords are also searchable through the right sidebar keyword filter. This filter allows for multiple keywords search.

Displaying keywords

By default, a large number of keywords is extracted. You can review all the keywords extracted and decide which ones you want to keep.

Click on Keywords menu. A modal window with the entire list of keywords extracted will appear. You can sort the list by alphabetical order or by count.

Next to each extracted keyword, you will find:

  • the frequency
  • the number of other keywords associated, and see which ones when hovering
  • the number of topics containing this keyword, and see which ones when hovering
  • the breakdown of answers containing this keyword between positive, negative and neutral sentiment

Sometimes very similar keywords are extracted (for ex. because of multiple spelling used for the same words). You might decide to merge those keywords into one. The resulting unified keyword will behave exactly as a native keyword.

You can toogle whether you want to keep the keyword visible in the console and the different tables and charts or not.

You can make all keywords visible or not visible by clicking on the toogle Keep all.

A keyword not visible will not be displayed in the console nor in the right sidebar filter. It will not been displayed in the word cloud charts.

Once set the visibility of each keyword, close the modal window by clicking on the cross in the upper right corner. Console with the answers will be back on display.
